The SIR infrared edge sensor is designed for detection of sound-transparent materials such as fabrics or those with very dense weaves. Used in web guiding systems, these sensors provide precise and reliable material reading, optimizing web alignment during the production process.

Infrared edge sensors feature an LED transmitter that emits infrared rays, and a PSD receiver that converts these rays into an electrical signal. Based on the signal’s intensity, the microprocessor determines the portion of the sensor’s sensitive area covered by the material within the fork and calculates the material’s edge position.

SIR sensors come in different versions depending on fork width, ranging from 30 mm to 181 mm, a reading range from 5 mm to 84 mm, and a resolution up to 0.0025 mm. Versions with an IP54 protection class are also available, making them resistant to dust and liquid splashes.

For easy calibration and management, the SIR-M, SIR.70, and SIR.71 versions feature an integrated keypad with buttons and a LED-bar, simplifying system interaction.

By using two sensors simultaneously, center guiding can be selected via remote control, further improving alignment accuracy.

In a complete web guiding system, SIR infrared edge sensors work alongside  MWG22, MWG10.1, SmartMotion technology and the WLigo display, and mechanical frames such as WG offset pivoting frames, WR steering rollers, and AT linear actuators to maintain web alignment during production.

SIR sensors can be mounted on manual, micrometric, or automatic sensor holders.
